Things I didn't do

26 Nov 2009: "Am thinking, however, that the car has been in this coat of primer for too long; I can see surface rust coming through in a few spots and the primer has peeled in a few others. Wouldn't be a bad plan to strip the rest of the car down to bare metal and put new primer on"

That dude was a genius.  Why does nobody ever listen to him?

The hood is likely ruined. There's rust at the back edge where the linoleum "roof/windshield" met the metal, I assume it wicked moisture in and never let it leave. The floors need quite a bit of patching. More rust in the channels than when I left it.

Also I find that although I am still not much of a weldor, these welds (from September 2002!) are abysmal and embarrassing.  I thought about not showing them.
Same sort of thing where the new fender is attached, maybe slightly better.
It's really all about removing the rust and whatever remaining paint (and dirt) is here.  All the drain holes I made need to get closed up too.
The rear quarter is dented in two places.  Not quite sure how/why, but it needs to get straight or get replaced again.
Progress shot
I went ahead and created a patch for a series of rust holes here.  Guess I didn't drill enough drain holes.
Almost done with the floors.  Only 2/3rds of the car left to do!
The Evening Orchid is vaguely visible here at the cowl-to-windshield
Also here on the cowl sides once I get past the black
Less so on the door sill
Door itself is very Evening Orchid.  Removed the doors for cleaning.  Removed the strikers.  Can't get the hinges off the doors, which is unfortunate.  Will likely have to use heat.
I wonder if the U of Nebraska has parking sticker records going back that far... and if they'd share any data.

This sticker must be preserved when the underside of the trunk is painted.  Not quite sure how yet.
The Internet (tm) had suggested using a diluted vinegar wash to get rid of rust.  I tried it on the fender; it worked well enough but as soon as it dried it re-rusted.  Won't be doing this on the rest of the car.
Remember how back in 2001 when I got the car, the trim tag was missing?
Not missing anymore.

I need to pull the front suspension, pull the motor, and de-rust/de-paint the engine bay and frame as well. So much rust. Go back to the previous day (29 Jun 2024)
